Carl is polydachtyl which means he has extra toes on his hind feet. Unlike dewclaws which are not connected via bone and can easily be removed these are actual toes with paw pads and bone.
Some breeds of dog actually breed for this trait as it helps them climb in rough terrain. It is considered a fault in Dachshunds so is reflected in his price.
They could be removed at time of nueter if desired for esthetic reasons but where they are actual toes we opted to not remove them at birth.
